I recently got a question from one of my subscribers who was wondering why marketing clients would keep paying you long-term.
Let’s say you set up a successful Facebook ad campaign.
Why won’t your client just fire you and keep the ad?
A couple of reasons.
First of all, advertising and marketing is not a set and forget process. Setting up a profitable ad campaign is hard enough. But once that’s done, there’s a lot more work to do in the back-end of your ad.
You have to monitor the results, report back to your client every month, kill unprofitable ads, scale up profitable ads, create seasonal campaigns for Black Friday, Christmas and other holidays, create retargeting campaigns, custom audiences, lookalike audiences, and you have to rotate ad campaigns to avoid banner blindness.
Those are all things your client won’t want to do himself or herself since it requires quite a lot of attention, skills and of course time.
Also once you build a successful campaign for your client, he or she won’t let go of you so quickly. Finding someone who can get results isn’t that easy, and if that’s you, they will hold on to you closely.
Then there’s also the power of being invested.
Your client has invested money, time and energy in finding you, hiring you, working with you, explaining things and paying you money.
The more invested someone is, the harder it is to let go.
It would be a huge pain in the ass for your client to go out there, start the process from scratch and look for someone new. Your client is looking to save time, energy and resources wherever possible. And once you’ve established a relationship with enough trust and rapport, your customer won’t want to give it up unless you screw up big time.
Essentially, there’s really nothing you have to worry about if get your customer’s results or at least make them happy with your work.
It’s highly unlikely that they will just stop working with you once you bless them with a successful campaign. It’s more likely that they’ll want more from where that came from, and will be even happier to keep you long-term and pay you an ongoing monthly retainer fee.
