When you’re running a drop shipping business and a customer asks you about the status of his order, you’ll need to go to Aliexpress and look up the customers order to find the tracking information.
However, if you have hundreds or thousands of orders every month you can easily get lost and spend hours searching for an order.
That’s why it’s important to keep Shopify in synch with Aliexpress.
There’s different ways of doing this, and in this post I’ll share a simple solution that doesn’t require you to get an app from the app store.
Here’s the stupid simple method:
Whenever someone orders form you on Shopify, you head over to Aliexpress and fulfil the order using the customer’s shipping address.
Once you’ve placed the order on Aliexpress, you get an order ID.
Immediately after placing your order, you copy the order ID and paste it in the “Notes” field in Shopify. Alternatively you can also click on the fulfill order button in Shopify and add the order ID in the tracking field. However, make sure you disable the checkbox for sending an email.
If you don’t disable the checkbox, your customer will get an email from Shopify with tracking information. But the tracking number won’t work, since it’s simple the Aliexpress order ID you entered there.
The Aliexpress order ID is only for internal use, and if you use the method above, you’re “misusing” Shopify’s tracking information field for internal purposes. Hence, you should disable the email checkbox.
So now when a customer emails you and asks for his or her order status, you can simply look up the order on Shopify and Aliexpress.
Here’s how the workflow looks like:
1) You search for the customer’s name or email in Shopify
2) Shopify shows the order in the search results
3) You open the order and look at the Notes or Tracking Information
4) You copy the Aliexpress order ID from one of those fields
5) You go to Aliexpress and navigate to your orders
6) You enter the order ID in the search field
7) You retrieve the necessary information from the Aliexpress order
8) You send the customer an email with the requested information
Seems like a lot of work, but it’s actually a matter of seconds once you understand the workflow and get used to the method above.
