Lowering the bar of what you’re willing to pay for freelancers, contractors and projects is rarely a good decision.
I see a lot of people complaining about their experience of hiring contractors. Heck I even see people complaining about the logo quality from a designer they paid five dollars on Fiverr.
The truth is: You get what you pay for!
If you pay peanuts you get monkeys.
If you don’t need an awesome looking logo, or it’s just not that important, then go with Fiverr. But never, ever complain about the quality you get because you got exactly what you paid for.
So if you find yourself frustrated because the people you’re working with aren’t delivering quality work, then take a step back.
Ask yourself if you are paying according to your standards?
Paying more will solve most of your frustrations and quality problems related to hiring people on sites like Upwork and similar portals. Paying more to a freelancers isn’t wasting money. He or she will deliver a much better work. Why half ass hire contractors? Just pay a little more and you’ll get the job nicely done.
One other advice is to take enough time when selecting your freelancers: Are you doing interviews on Skype prior to starting the project? Are you qualifying them correctly? Are you selecting people just based on their profile description or because you tested them?
These are all things you should consider.
BUT PLEASE.
Don’t complain about things like quality of work or judge the lack of commitment on the side of your freelancers if you are not paying properly, not selecting properly and not leading properly.
Most of the times when you try to get the cheapest price on anything you just temporarily solve the problem.
Take responsibility. Pay more. Expect more.
