I think affiliate marketing is a great way to get started online. You make some quick money without having to create your own product and build your own sales funnel. You save a ton of software expenses, overhead costs and you can avoid a lot of work.
But ultimately you are on the short end of the stick.
By promoting someone else’s products you are building their customer list. Every customer you bring into someone’s funnel can be worth 10x or 100x more during the lifespan of that customer.
So although you get paid for referring a customer, you will only get paid a tiny fraction of the lifetime value of that customer.
Affiliate marketing is a great way to tip your toes into the world of internet marketing. But looking at the big picture you’re really just building someone else’s customer list, brand and dream.
At some point you need to flip the script and start creating your own products and focus on building your own customer list and brand. Start investing on yourself.
It’s all about long-term thinking versus instant gratification.
At the end of the day the people that are really making the big bucks are not the affiliate marketers, but the owners of the products. So instead of staying an affiliate marketer forever, flip the script, and get other people to build your dream and customer list for YOU.
