Getting in touch with influencers is actually really easy once you have the balls and a strategic plan of action to start making moves. So here’s how to reach influencers.
You just have to stop thinking that influencers are somehow cut from a different cloth, man up and reach out to them. It doesn’t mean they’re going to respond, but nothing holds you back from trying.
Here’s the method I would use:
1) Interact on Twitter
The first thing you want to do is get on an influencer’s radar. That means, you want them to notice you and recognize your name.
An easy way to achieve this is by interacting on Twitter.
Follow the influencer, retweet multiple posts every day, mention them in tweets, comment on their tweets and make sure your Twitter handle pops up in their Twitter notifications many times.
Try and get a “Thanks for the retweet” or something like that from them, or even try and get them to retweet a tweet of yours.
You can even tell them in a Tweet that you have something you’d like to send over to them, and ask what email you should send it to. Often they will respond to the tweet with an email address or something.
This creates context for your approach.
2) Reach out to them
Once you’ve been on the influencer’s radar, and once the attention you get peaks, it’s time to reach out with your actual request.
Send over an email or a private message.
Mention them in a Tweet and tell them you just sent them an email or private message. In the email or private message you can reference the interactions you had on Twitter. Thank them and tell them how they’ve inspired you and then get straight to the point of what you want.
