These days everyone is obsessed with reading books. And sometimes is just a disguise for excuses.
But I get it. You can learn valuable information from reading a great business book, but nothing beats real-life, “elbows in the mud” experience. Trust me.
While you’re reading through your stack of books, I’m out there in the real world making things happen and gathering actual feedback. I’m taking action.
It’s the difference between: Theory vs. practical
Most people these days are drowning in information and it’s one big mental masturbation. Look, theory has little real-word value. Things don’t happen in your mind, only in the real world. You can’t cover up lack of action by thinking more.
Taking action is the practical thing to do. Engaging with the world and the market. Gathering feedback, data, and running tests. That’s how you get better.
It will teach you a million times more than reading a book.
You will learn so much from your mistakes. And they will stay forever with you. You know: once burned, twice learned. But with books you get those flashes of insights and they just vanish after a week.
So I want to challenge you this year to stop reading and take 200% action instead. What you’ll learn by doing this will be much more profound and valuable than what you can read in any book.
Before you know what’s happening you’ll be the one writing your own book and everyone else will be reading it while you take action.
Experience is earned in the “field”.
Not in an armchair.
You can read. Just remember is doesn’t substitute for action. It never will.
I hope it helps.
