There is no “secret” method to motivating yourself or getting stuff done. It’s all a long and consistent build up over many years.
Motivation isn’t something you do or “create”.
It happens naturally as a side-effect of working hard.
A lot of people wait for motivation and productivity to be there before they take any action. However, the whole game is rigged. Successful people take action even if they don’t feel like it, they endure dry spells in their businesses without feeling particularly motivated or energetic.
See, motivation follows after you take action.
And not the other way round.
If you learn to take action even if you don’t feel like it, without being motivated, you will eventually have a small sense of achievement.
You’ll get some positive results, no matter how small.
And now that you have proof that your actions result in something good, you start to feel a little bit more motivated. So this motivation translates into more focus and action. And because you work more, you experience some more small wins and successes.
These new successes motivate you even more, so now you work even harder because you have those positive reference experiences.
And before you know what’s going on, you work 12 hours a day.
Before you know what’s going on you wake up every morning with incredible drive, feeling naturally motivated. You don’t have to do anything or force anything to feel like that. It’s just there.
Motivation is a spiral that builds over time.
However, in the beginning when you’re not in this positive upwards spiral, you have to “fake it till you make it”. Nobody feels motivated or productive in the beginning. The secret is to work hard and hustle even if you don’t feel motivated, until motivation follows naturally.
If you do that for long enough, you will start to feel motivated because of the small wins you experience along the way. Most people fail because they never make it through the initial dry spell.
Seven years ago I had zero motivation in life.
Today I wake up feeling empowered and motivated every day, naturally, without having to do anything. And it’s easy for me to work 12 hours a day and stay focussed. But it was all a build up.
Remember that you don’t need to feel motivated to start today.
Just start today, put in the work and motivation will follow.
