I like to plan my day the night before with the help of a success journal. This way the tasks I want to accomplish are “seeded” right before I go to sleep, which allows them to sink in over night.
I’m not sure how to explain it but when you learn or study something right before going to bed, the learning effect is very profound.
In school I used to study vocabularies right before going to bed.
And it always gave me an advantage in exams, because when I rehearsed the vocabularies before going to bed, I would remember them clearly the next day and it created a sort of stickiness.
The same works for setting goals and planning your day.
When writing my goals for the next day I still have in my mind what I wished I’d done better that day. That helps me figure out what I will do better tomorrow. Plus, even if I don’t stick rigorously to the plan, I have an outline of what I pretend to do. There’s less chance I go off track.
This simple habit has a tremendous impact in my productivity everyday.
It helps me have a proactive mindset right from the moment I wake up. I don’t depend on my morning mood to plan my day.
It also helps me sleep better because I contemplate and think less when I’m going to bed. It’s like a conclusion to my work day. Whatever I plan to do, I will do it tomorrow, and so there’s no point at all thinking about it when it’s time to sleep. I rest a lot better. 🙂
Write down your goals and your to-do-list for the next day last thing before going to bed and something magical happens over night.
Just give it a try. 🙂
