In this article I’ll discuss how to be successful at drop shipping.
Drop shipping is all the rage.
I’ve talked about the future of drop shipping and why I believe it’s still a profitable.
In fact, yesterday I had a call with Florian, one of my followers who makes $120,000 a month from drop shipping. He’s using the horizontal method of scaling up a drop shipping business.
What struck me most is that he started his store about seven months ago.
For that entire period he was barely breaking even or even making a loss from his Facebook ads. He told me he tested at least 60 different products in those seven months.
He then went from making $1,000 per day to $2,000 per day and eventually $6,000 per day.
In the last two weeks he made $60,000 with his store.
Pretty awesome, right?
So let’s talk about why he gets these results.
How to Be Successful at Drop Shipping: The 6-Step Process
You’re probably expecting there’s a trick or some sort of secret.
I’m sorry to disappoint you.
The reason why my follower makes $120,000 a month has little to do with tactics and secrets. Of course, most “gurus” want to make you believe it’s all about knowing the newest advertising tricks or having access to some secret information that will cost you a lot of money to acquire.
But in reality, business has a lot more to do with mastering mental skills.
Here’s how to be successful at drop shipping:
- Research products that are hot but aren’t saturated
- Test 50-100 products, ideally a few products per week
- Keep testing for 6-12 months without getting discouraged
- Test different Facebook advertising and influencer marketing strategies
- Reframe losses and investments as “paying” for valuable information
- Once you find a winner scale it up, for example with this scaling method
That’s how to be successful at drop shipping.
Period.
That’s people are getting massive results. There’s no secret, just a whole lot of research, hard work and persistence. If you consistently follow these six steps you’ll eventually get results. But most people aren’t willing to do whatever it takes to become successful.
I already know some people will feel disappointed after reading these six steps.
Not a good sign.
I know without the shadow of a doubt that anyone who’s really successful at drop shipping will immediately recognize and confirm these six steps in one way or another.
If you feel like there must be a secret or a missing piece of the puzzle, you’re wrong.
I’m sorry to break it to you.
You’ve probably fallen victim to the “get rich quick” mentality.
Sure, you can get rich quick with drop shipping, just like Florian did, but it’s all a build up. It took him seven months of research, hard work and persistence until he found a winning product that made him $1,000, $2,000 and eventually $6,000 days (and $120,000 per month).
If you look at Florian’s success, he went from making nothing to $120,000 a month quickly.
But it took him seven months of build up and insanely hard work go “get rich quick”.
Are you still confused about how to be successful at drop shipping and curious about Florian’s secret? If you’re still skeptical about what causes success, this next section is for you.
The Journey to Drop Shipping Success: All Roads Lead to Rome
Here’s the fascinating thing.
There’s not just one way of becoming successful at drop shipping.
Since building my own drop shipping businesses I’ve seen behind the scenes of at least 20 six-figure or seven-figure drop shipping businesses. I run a drop shipping mastermind and I’ve seen tons of people getting insane results with drop shipping using completely different methods.
What I did to build my first drop shipping businesses worked extremely well for me.
I was running carousel ads optimized for Page Post Engagement and promoting free plus shipping offers Florian is selling gadgets using Facebook video ads optmized for purchases.
I know other people who swear that single image ads and optmizing for add to carts works best. And again others claim Instagram ads are the only way to go. Arturo made $25,000 in two days from talking influencers into giving him free shoutouts, without ever touching Facebook ads. Armin made $20,000 a month from influencer marketing and building a team of affiliates.
And you know what?
All these methods are valid and work really well.
When it comes to drop shipping you have to remember:
All roads lead to Rome (or at least many).
There isn’t just one way of becoming successful at drop shipping. I know this for sure because I see behind the scenes of so many different successful drop shipping businesses, and none of them was created equally. It’s not about tactics or secrets but following the six steps.
The Hindsight Bias in Drop Shipping
Most drop shipping “gurus” fall victim to the hindsight bias.
Since they became successful with certain tactics and strategies, when they look back they believe it was the method they used that made them successful at drop shipping.
In psychology, this is called the hindsight bias.
Once we see a certain outcome, we believe the outcome was predictable, despite there being no objective basis for predicting the outcome. Once someone becomes successful at drop shipping it’s easy to claim the success was the result of a certain strategy, tactic or method.
But was it really?
I didn’t become successful because I optimized for page posts and used carousel ads. Florian isn’t making $120,000 a month because he’s using video ads and optimizing for purchases.
And Arturo didn’t make $25,000 in a weekend because of a free shoutout.
Thousands of others can run carousel ads or video ads, optimize for this or that objective and get free shoutouts, but they won’t get the same results. It was never the tactic or the method that caused the success. It was the relentless research, testing countless products and persistence that made these people successful. It’s easy to fall for the hindsight bias.
How to be successful at drop shipping?
Follow the six steps outlined in this article and you’ll be fine.
There’s not much more to it.
Sure, learning about Facebook advertising and influencer marketing is important. Testing different advertising and marketing strategies is great, but remember, all roads lead to Rome.

“Test 50-100 products, ideally a few products per week”
Are these products of the same niche under different categories or in a totally different niche? If it’s in a totally different niche then my store and domain should then be setup as a general store and not as a niche, focus store. Is this correct?
Till Boadella
Yes, products in all sorts of niches. You should start a general store 🙂
