When it comes to order tracking on my drop shipping stores, I don’t offer an order lookup to my customers on my website. I only provide tracking information if someone inquires the status of their order.
The reason why is because I want to make my life as simple as possible. Even with an order lookup, I’d get support emails.
Many people don’t even bother looking on the website.
They just hit the “reply” button on your order confirmation email and ask where their item is and how long it will take to arrive.
So here’s the system that works for me:
1) When someone orders an item and I fulfill it on AliExpress, I copy the order number into the tracking field in Shopify.
2) I disable the checkbox where it sends an email to the customer with the tracking information. This is important, because if the customer gets an email it will not include the actual tracking number, it’ll include the order number from AliExpress which is for internal use only. So always deactivate that checkbox when doing this.
3) When a customer sends me a support email and asks about the order, I look up their email or name in Shopify and find the order.
4) I then go the tracking field in Shopify and find the AliExpress order number. Once I have the order number I go to AliExpress and look for that specific order by that customer. Takes a few seconds only.
5) Once I have found the right order on AliExpress, I go to the “Tracking Information” section and retrieve the actual tracking number
6) I send the customer a kind email with the tracking number
That’s the process in a nutshell 🙂
I get a few order inquiries every week, but it’s quite manageable. Maybe there’s more effective ways to do it, but this works for me.
