Today’s questin comes from David and he’s saying: “I saw a TV program where an IT specialist said that the email address will die in the next few years. What do you think about building up an email list these days? Should you put money in it?”
Most of my clients still rely to a large extent on email marketing for online sales. I would say email marketing is right at the top next to Facebook advertising, so it’s still extremely effective.
So even if email will lose it’s prominent “role” in the next 5-10 years, you should still focus on building your email list right now.
Who cares?
What matters is what works right now. It doesn’t mean you can’t explore and build a following on other platforms like Snapchat, but email works right now, so you have to use it in your business.
And yes, maybe in 5-10 years Facebook will be gone just like Myspace and the second golden age of online advertising is over.
Yes, maybe email will be replaced with something.
And when that happens I’ll be there using these new platforms and marketing on those, just like I’m now using email, Facebook ads, YouTube ads and other stuff that’s working like crazy now.
You want to measure your platform not by it’s prediction for the future, but by it’s effectiveness at the present moment.
Also, building you’re email list shouldn’t cost you anything. It should come with a positive ROI. You should be at least breaking even with each email subscriber and that means you’re not losing any money.
Don’t be lazy – You don’t have the “right” to think you’re an innovator if you haven’t even mastered the most basic marketing channels.
That’s an excuse that will result in big losses.
Hope it helps. 😉
